3 Idiots! 3 cheers!

what about 3 idiots then? It had hype, but didn't affect me, was pretty apprehensive since i had read the book, seen a play. but then dragged along with not much expectation. what i get? kick ass mainstream cinema. Its everything indian and contemporary.
comparisons with the book? the book is indeed the inspiration and the characters are straight from the book, but post interval it is entirely a different road. the storyline is a mix mash of both the book and hirani.everyone's talking about aamir khan, and he deserves every word, in spite of his age he fits the role of the student to a tee. kareena, essays well, does leave behind an impression. a little long as the songs were totally unnecessary

a laugh riot, totally filmy, sweet and sour(has an equal mix of sense and filmy stuff)
a good way to end the year.

go watch the mainstream movie of the year.

the performances were mediocre.
the darker side of life is potrayed with panache and attitude,
its a whole new world out there.
devdas of the modern world.
becomes inevident but bollywood indeed steals or gets inspired from hollywood.
the later half of the movie reminds you of the jodie foster- de niro part in Taxi driver.
the location and many of the scenes makes you nostalgic of Taxi driver.
Similarly the last scene of Luck by chance reminds you of the movie Closer.
otherwise a bold effort from the director.

the offbeaten path of bollywood. follow it, you wouldnt regret it.

LUCK BY CHANCE

yet another watchable movie!
yes, luck by chance is more than that. the performances are the mainstay while you start
talking about it, the movie belongs to every one of them. full justice done.
the story is nothing unusual, but it weaves itself very well for the very plausible climax.
suprising that inspite of so many characters in the movie and so little playing time,
the characters are very convincing in their roles and you feel like you know each one of them.

cinematography and music is top notch. quite a lot of one liners to keep you hooked.

a beautiful piece of work from the hindi film industry(as dimple would like it to be called)

casino royale

was almost half an hour late into the audi.
havent seen casino royale at all, except for the last scene on star movies where the lady dressed in red is dead.

thats my background, inspite of that, i could enjoy the gloominess in the movie. add to it the earthy colors of the frames, very well captured. so i am not talking about anything else.

i liked it.

ROCK ON!

one of those better hindi movies.

Rock on is phul of style and substance.
true to its name, the sounds of rock reverberates throughout. silence otherwise balances the music part of it.
the way farhan responds in the first half made me shout out loud, 'are you a jerk'
i wonder if its his acting skills which leaves you with such feeling. nevertheless alls well when it ended well.
the casting was apt, the girls and the boys.

it becomes inevitable but to think down the lane, the same emptiness the characters witness post the band period is waiting for anyone who has an unfinished past.
the art of photography is highly commendable. from the anglo indian bunglow of joe and the contemporary loft of aditya and the underground adobe of the band to the stages! very classy.

THE DARK KNIGHT

the feeling after having watched the movie was mixed.
the only colourful factor of the otherwise grey-white-black-green-blue dominant movie is the purple coated, blonde haired, red liped JOKER, who is the flavour of the show.

slowly the movie grows in you, making you realise all the philosiphical metaphors generously bestowed in the film.
The human characters are put to test at extreme conditions by the Joker.

How when everything mundane is stripped from the citizens of Gotham and the prisoners, they invariantly think right(people on the ferry). And also when true love is stripped off a responsible and honest citizen, how he loses it (the case of harvey dent).how differently characters react is well etched to suit reality. Lot a thoughts to be pondered and lessons to be learnt.

Batman has little to do but just being a pawn in the Joker's game, No wonder you end up thinking the joker is the protagonist.
Rightly, 'Ladies and Gentlemen, Joker's tonight's entertainment'

A dark and deep movie indeed. Nolan's best!
Waiting to watch it again.

R.I.P Heath Ledger

I was shocked when i first saw the message in the news section of msn, when i logged out after checking my hotmail on 23rd Jan.

The offbeat movies that he chose set him apart, a sensible and damn good an actor.
His passion shows. What really hurts the most is that there was this actor who knew what he wanted to experiment and was doing a great job at it, who would have surely carved himself an undisputable place on the lines of all the stalwarts of hollywood acting contributing some of the best performances ever, to depart in his prime at the age of 28 makes it worse.
